1. Why is CampWest held in Las Vegas, Nevada?
Affordable airline options and good schedule choices from most places in the region; centrally located in terms of travel patterns and the largest numbers of our regional ACA members; competitive hotel costs with minimal meeting charges, ability to book at non-gaming hotels; highly experienced visitors bureau in supporting meetings; destination location with options before and after conference - shows, museums, casinos, parks, national parks; variety of entertainment options from no cost to expensive; variety of eating options from low cost to more expensive; activity options for under 21 year olds.
2. Are there non-gaming activities available at the conference? What options exist for staff under 21? More than most people are aware of! Visit http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5396173/ & http://www.vegasfreebie.com/ for a list of non-gaming activities.
3. How many people may I register to receive the group registration rate?
To qualify for the group rate, you may send a group of 2 or more people. If it’s cheaper to register individually, that’s okay!
4. May I combine organizations to form one group?
Absolutely!
5. Does the registration cover the cost of meals?
To keep the conference registration costs down, attendees have asked us not to include meals in the cost of the registration. A buffet dinner is provided in the Exhibit Hall on Friday, April 3rd. The Alexis Park Resort has a restaurant and gift shop with snacks onsite. A food cart will be made available with sandwiches, pizza, and salads available for purchase. The Hard Rock Café, Subway, and other restaurants are within walking distance to the hotel.
6. Are there kindred networking receptions at CampWest? Information will be made available onsite with information about fun group outings and activities for various kindred groups!
7. When does the conference begin and end? Should I attend the section gatherings on Wednesday?
The opening general session begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. The closing session will end at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009. There are pre- and post-conference courses available if you’d like to attend. We encourage all folks to attend their “section gathering” on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to meet regional leadership and colleagues who are in attendance at the conference!
8. What is an “interest session” versus a “special ticketed event”?
An “interest session” is a workshop designed to give you nuggets of wisdom and help focus attention toward the summer ahead; over 70 interest sessions are included with the cost of your conference registration. A “special ticketed event” is an in-depth exploration of a specific topic; most have additional cost, and pre-registration is required. The complete list of “interest sessions” will be posted online in early March and included in your conference program book, available for pick-up onsite April 1st.
9. How do I add “ticketed events” to my original registration?
You may either log-on to your online registration account with the user name and password you originally created upon registering, or you may email the CampWest office at info@acasocal.org.
10. I’m a member of the Western Association of Independent Camps (WAIC); how do I register for my “ticketed events”? Contact Carole Cheley at carolecheley@cheley.com to register for your 2 complimentary ticketed events (valued at $35 each). To register for additional ticketed events, visit www.CampWest.org.
11. How do I change or add an attendee’s name?
Contact the CampWest Office at info@acasocal.org.
12. I’d like to present a workshop at CampWest. How do I sign up? There is a call for proposals posted online at www.CampWest.org. Download the form and email completed form to info@acasocal.org as soon as possible!
13. Where may I download the confirmation packet?
You may download the confirmation packet online after March 1, 2009.
14. When and where will onsite check-in be held?
Wednesday, April 1st from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursday, April 2nd from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Friday, April 3rd from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, April 4th from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The registration desk and hospitality center is located in the Apollo Foyer of the hotel, where you can leave or receive messages, find camp jobs and obtain information regarding Las Vegas.
The Apollo Foyer is to the right of the main entrance.
15. What’s the discounted hotel room rate and online registration code? Reference the “CampWest Conference” to receive the special conference hotel rate of $109/night plus tax for a Monarch Suite (Queen, Double-Double, or King), single or double occupancy; additional guests are $20 each per night. Suite-style rooms only (maximum four people to a room fire code). Children under 12 stay free with adults. To make your reservation, call (800) 582-2228 by March 8th.
Why should I stay at the hotel? By staying at the Alexis Park Resort, your stay is credited to our master room block. When the conference meets its minimum guarantee of room nights, meeting space is provided to the conference free of charge. In turn, fewer expenses help keep your conference rates low year after year.
16. Why do I see returning speakers at CampWest this year? CampWest offers a practical and guided education experience. Previous speakers serve as facilitators who help connect the dots of the conference themes year after year. Why is a guided experience important? So conference attendees can maximize their level of learning and retention of information.
17. Tell me more about the Experienced Camp Director Day!
This event was brought back by popular demand. It’s customized to meet your needs as a camp director, put you directly in touch with industry-leading experts who can understand your camp issues and share specific ways to tackle even the most challenging of problems you experience at camp. Food, fellowship, and face-to-face contact with speakers, vendors, and colleagues! In other words, why wouldn’t you be there?
18. I’m interested in volunteering at CampWest. Is there a discount for volunteers, and how do I register?
At this time, there is no registration discount for volunteers. However, volunteers will be entered to win high-end prizes as a thank you for their time and efforts! Click here and download and complete the Volunteer Registration Form.
19. I’d like to find a roommate. How do I notify other attendees?

20. Can I register for a pre-conference course without registering for the conference? Absolutely! When registering for the conference, click on "Wednesday Only - Pre conference courses." All standards courses are free of charge.
1. When and where is the exhibit hall?
The exhibit hall will be held on Friday, April 3rd from 12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. with unopposed show hours from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Parthenon Ballroom at the Alexis Park Resort.
2. When may I set up and tear down my display?
The exhibit hall will open at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 3rd for vendors to set up their display(s). All vendors must keep their booths up until 7:30 p.m.
3. Where do I ship my display?
All shipments must be sent to Las Vegas Expo. No materials should be sent to the Alexis Park Resort, or an additional charge may apply. LAS VEGAS EXPO, 4075 East Post Road,

5. When will my booth location be confirmed?
Vendors will be notified of their booth location by March 6, 2009. Please note: booth selection is awarded on a first come-first served basis following receipt of full payment. Conference sponsors receive premium booth locations. Other prime locations are reserved for exhibitors who have supported CampWest for 3 or more years. Full exhibitor fees must be paid prior to February 1, 2008 to be eligible for prime locations. CampWest does its best to accommodate all exhibitors, but cannot guarantee booth placement. 6. May I receive a copy of the attendee mailing list?
You sure may! Just contact the CampWest office at info@acasocal.org.
7. I see the exhibit hall is Friday, April 3rd only. Tell me about the optional lobby hours on Saturday.
Vendors may enjoy one more chance to connect in person with conference attendees. This is an informal opportunity (no pipe and drape) for you to set up a table Saturday morning for appointments you made in the exhibit hall the previous day.
