Conference Program Overview
The 2009 CampWest program will build on the formats and themes introduced in 2006, 2007, and 2008 as we explore the conference theme. All sessions will relate to our five critical issues areas.
Participants will be guided through the learning experience by expert presenters, as they help us to define the issues and explore the solutions throughout the conference. In addition to quality training programs, participants also have the opportunity to network with fellow camp professionals.
Critical Issues Statements
- Extending our reach means stepping away from the familiar. Brain research has shown us that even the most casual encounters, positive and negative, prime our emotions. How do we use our knowledge of emotional intelligence to develop and promote positive relationships with and among diverse camper, staff and parent audiences?
- Supportive relationships provide the strongest camp impact on youth development. How do we capitalize on this knowledge in training and managing camp staff?
- Shared insights help our social brains to develop stronger connections. Yet, even when we think we are interpreting the same message, social and emotional responses distract us from our goal. How do we combine values based marketing and the development of emotional intelligence to share the value of the camp experience with parents and foster parent cooperation throughout their camper’s participation?
- A healthy youth development experience includes interactions with peers and adults that are physically and emotionally safe. How can camps structure program opportunities and design facilities that capitalize on creating positive social and emotional responses to others? How can camps capitalize on the use of technology to improve and enhance relationships that are socially responsible?
- Brand strength is directly proportional to our reach within the community. How can our connections to other camps and ACA increase our application of shared skills to build on our brand promise? How can our connections to vendors, government agencies and other community businesses and organizations increase our brand potential?
